Emergency Care

As a loving pet parent, you never want to see your four-legged family member in distress. Unfortunately, unexpected illnesses and sudden accidents can occur at any time. The way you handle these types of situations can make all the difference in the world for your loved one. At Bell Veterinary Hospital, you’ll know you’ve got a dedicated team in your corner.

Some of the signs that your pet may require urgent medical attention include:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Ingestion of a foreign object or toxic substance
  • Broken bones
  • Cuts, lacerations or puncture wounds
  • Vomiting or diarrhea lasting longer than 24 hours
  • Bleeding
  • Trauma, such as a fall or being hit by a car
  • Swollen or tender abdomen
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Lameness
  • Disorientation
  • Foaming at the mouth
  • Convulsions/seizures
  • Loss of consciousness

If you notice your companion exhibiting any of these signs, it’s time to call for help right away. At Bell Veterinary Hospital, we always recommend calling ahead when an emergency occurs. This allows us to evaluate the situation and provide first aid instructions over the phone. It also lets us prepare the hospital and other team members for your pet’s arrival.

In the event of an emergency, please call the hospital main line at (205) 486-4500 for further instruction.

For After Hours Emergencies, Dr. Bell will evaluate your pet’s needs and determine if immediate attention is required or if your pet can be seen during normal practice hours the next business day.

Shoals Area Veterinary Emergency Hospital is an after hours option.

We sincerely hope you never experience the need for urgent veterinary care. If you do, however, we want you to know who to call. The team at Bell Veterinary Hospital will be here to provide the necessary services. You can count on us!
